Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Glass and Gas & Water sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 3.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nitto Denko Co (T:6988), which rose 8.98% or 542.0 points to trade at 6578.0 at the close. Kirin Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:2503) added 8.61% or 137.0 points to end at 1728.5 and NTT Docomo, Inc. (T:9437) was up 4.87% or 126.5 points to 2723.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5214), which lost 16.75% or 98.0 points to trade at 487.0 in late trade. Ricoh Co., Ltd. (T:7752) declined 15.70% or 178.0 points to end at 956.0 and Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (T:9531) shed 9.92% or 48.1 points to 437.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1791 to 184 and 28 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 12.78% to 31.07 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was down 0.68% or 0.31 to $45.61 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July fell 0.89% or 0.42 to hit $46.95 a barrel, while the June Gold contract rose 0.31% or 4.00 to trade at $1294.50 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.04% to 106.49, while EUR/JPY rose 0.07% to 122.02.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.01% at 93.01.
