Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Rubber, Glass and Machinery sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 1.89%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toho Co., Ltd. (T:9602), which rose 3.86% or 112.0 points to trade at 3010.0 at the close. Furukawa Co., Ltd. (T:5715) added 1.80% or 5.0 points to end at 283.0 and Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co., Ltd. (T:5232) was up 1.57% or 7.0 points to 452.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included SUMCO Corp. (T:3436), which lost 7.73% or 98.0 points to trade at 1169.0 in late trade. Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) declined 5.46% or 19.0 points to end at 329.0 and Nippon Steel&Sumitomo Metal Corp. (T:5401) shed 5.41% or 136.0 points to 2377.5.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1675 to 195 and 1 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 6.85% to 27.47.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for November delivery was up 0.17% or 0.08 to $46.74 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in December rose 0.11% or 0.06 to hit $49.74 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.68% or 7.90 to trade at $1173.30 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.01% to 119.72, while EUR/JPY rose 0.17% to 136.48.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.13% at 94.67.
