Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Transportation Equipment, Financial Services and Power sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.95%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (TOKYO:7211), which rose 5.47% or 57.0 points to trade at 1100.0 at the close. Kyowa Hakko Kirin Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:4151) added 4.60% or 85.0 points to end at 1933.0 and Taiheiyo Cement Corp. (TOKYO:5233) was up 2.27% or 9.0 points to 405.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included SUMCO Corp. (TOKYO:3436), which lost 5.26% or 68.0 points to trade at 1226.0 in late trade. Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:4005) declined 4.95% or 37.0 points to end at 710.0 and Eisai Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:4523) shed 4.44% or 374.0 points to 8055.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1621 to 260 and 1 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 5.79% to 19.56.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.22% or 0.10 to $48.03 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.01% or 0.01 to hit $54.62 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 1.60% or 17.40 to trade at $1103.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.30% to 123.44, while EUR/JPY rose 0.06% to 136.06.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.33% at 97.02.
