Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Rubber, Electrical/Machinery and Finance & Investment sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.88%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nippon Soda Co., Ltd. (T:4041), which rose 14.30% or 109.0 points to trade at 871.0 at the close. Shiseido Co., Ltd. (T:4911) added 3.52% or 97.0 points to end at 2856.0 and Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:9501) was up 3.44% or 29.0 points to 871.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Asahi Kasei Corp. (T:3407), which lost 8.54% or 68.2 points to trade at 730.0 in late trade. SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) declined 5.75% or 68.0 points to end at 1114.0 and NSK Ltd. (T:6471) shed 4.74% or 63.0 points to 1267.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1191 to 675 and 5 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 3.92% to 27.84.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for December delivery was down 0.50% or 0.24 to $47.48 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in December fell 0.47% or 0.23 to hit $50.23 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.88% or 10.40 to trade at $1172.70 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.10% to 119.31, while EUR/JPY rose 0.10% to 135.71.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.14% at 94.63.
