Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Insurance and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.61%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043), which rose 7.10% or 26.0 points to trade at 392.0 at the close. Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:9501) added 5.67% or 20.0 points to end at 372.5 and Uny Group Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:8270) was up 4.38% or 46.0 points to 1096.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included SUMCO Corp. (T:3436), which lost 6.01% or 55.0 points to trade at 860.0 in late trade. NTN Corp. (T:6472) declined 5.85% or 21.0 points to end at 338.0 and Hino Motors, Ltd. (T:7205) shed 4.80% or 53.0 points to 1051.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1257 to 678 and 122 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.45% to 22.33.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for October delivery was down 1.05% or 0.50 to $46.91 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October fell 0.81% or 0.40 to hit $48.76 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.04% or 0.50 to trade at $1342.90 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.25% to 100.08, while EUR/JPY fell 0.15% to 113.39.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.13% at 94.40.
