Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Retail, Construction and Insurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.38%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd. (T:1332), which rose 7.21% or 44.0 points to trade at 654.0 at the close. Toshiba Corp. (T:6502) added 5.31% or 14.4 points to end at 285.6 and Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) was up 4.95% or 21.0 points to 445.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dentsu Inc. (T:4324), which lost 3.16% or 180.0 points to trade at 5510.0 in late trade. Mitsui Fudosan Co., Ltd. (T:8801) declined 2.62% or 69.5 points to end at 2583.5 and Suzuki Motor Corp. (T:7269) shed 2.52% or 138.0 points to 5330.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1779 to 1270 and 297 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.10% to 14.35.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.72% or 0.33 to $46.05 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 0.73% or 0.35 to hit $48.41 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.37% or 4.77 to trade at $1288.43 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.04% to 109.78, while EUR/JPY fell 0.11% to 123.49.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 96.72.
