Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Transportation Equipment, Power and Transport sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 2.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Inpex Corp. (TYO:1605), which rose 4.41% or 87.00 points to trade at 2,058.50 at the close. Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. (TYO:5541) added 4.02% or 56.00 points to end at 1,448.00 and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (TYO:5713) was up 3.22% or 143.00 points to 4,589.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included TDK Corp (TYO:6762), which lost 5.13% or 100.00 points to trade at 1,847.50 in late trade. Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (TYO:3099) declined 4.95% or 116.00 points to end at 2,229.00 and Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857) shed 4.85% or 334.00 points to 6,556.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2920 to 739 and 198 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 12.33% to 24.75.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for November delivery was up 1.65% or 1.15 to $70.98 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in December rose 1.55% or 1.14 to hit $74.70 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.76% or 20.50 to trade at $2,669.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.25% to 143.91, while EUR/JPY rose 0.23% to 159.26.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 100.98.
