Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Gas & Water, Railway & Bus and Insurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 1.87% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Inpex Corp. (T:1605), which rose 2.56% or 34.5 points to trade at 1381.0 at the close. Toho Co., Ltd. (T:9602) added 2.11% or 75.0 points to end at 3635.0 and Dentsu Inc. (T:4324) was up 0.92% or 50.0 points to 5460.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Softbank Corp. (T:9984), which lost 7.32% or 730.5 points to trade at 9246.0 in late trade. Fast Retailing Co., Ltd. (T:9983) declined 4.51% or 2530.0 points to end at 53540.0 and Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T:5301) shed 4.49% or 94.0 points to 1999.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2863 to 669 and 152 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.93% to 25.42.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for November delivery was up 0.39% or 0.28 to $71.62 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in December rose 0.67% or 0.54 to hit $80.97 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract rose 0.86% or 10.50 to trade at $1232.50 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.42% to 111.72, while EUR/JPY fell 0.40% to 129.16.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 94.91.
