Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Transportation Equipment, Machinery and Electrical/Machinery sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 1.32%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokuyama Corp. (TYO:4043), which rose 2.74% or 48.00 points to trade at 1,802.00 at the close. Taiheiyo Cement Corp. (TYO:5233) added 2.72% or 55.00 points to end at 2,079.00 and Chiyoda Corp. (TYO:6366) was up 2.38% or 11.00 points to 473.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (TYO:4568), which lost 7.02% or 232.00 points to trade at 3,073.00 in late trade. Nissan Chemical Industries, Ltd. (TYO:4021) declined 5.80% or 420.00 points to end at 6,820.00 and Shiseido Co., Ltd. (TYO:4911) shed 3.82% or 207.00 points to 5,217.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2545 to 988 and 229 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 21.25% to 25.79.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.84% or 1.02 to $121.95 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 0.89% or 1.09 to hit $123.36 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.01% or 0.25 to trade at $1,832.05 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.06% to 134.32, while EUR/JPY rose 0.51% to 140.57.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.34% at 104.61.
