Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Precision Instruments, Transportation Equipment and Electrical/Machinery sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 1.00%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Hitachi Ltd (TYO:6501), which rose 3.69% or 130.00 points to trade at 3,654.00 at the close. IHI Corp. (TYO:7013) added 3.40% or 149.00 points to end at 4,537.00 and Mercari Inc (TYO:4385) was up 2.60% or 51.00 points to 2,009.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (TYO:7735), which lost 5.73% or 875.00 points to trade at 14,395.00 in late trade. Japan Exchange Group Inc (TYO:8697) declined 3.39% or 129.00 points to end at 3,677.00 and Japan Tobacco Inc (TYO:2914) shed 2.93% or 132.00 points to 4,370.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2033 to 1574 and 267 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.53% to 16.74.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was down 0.12% or 0.10 to $80.80 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.08% or 0.07 to hit $84.40 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.01% or 0.25 to trade at $2,312.95 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.27% to 160.35, while EUR/JPY fell 0.14% to 171.52.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 105.56.
