Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Gas & Water, Chemical and Paper & Pulp sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (T:4568), which rose 2.81% or 131.0 points to trade at 4798.0 at the close. Konami Corp. (T:9766) added 2.52% or 140.0 points to end at 5700.0 and Kirin Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:2503) was up 2.13% or 63.5 points to 3047.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dentsu Inc. (T:4324), which lost 6.83% or 345.0 points to trade at 4705.0 in late trade. SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) declined 4.14% or 99.0 points to end at 2292.0 and Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) shed 4.12% or 160.0 points to 3725.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2076 to 1272 and 226 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.32% to 15.78 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.29% or 0.20 to $68.44 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.90% or 0.65 to hit $73.23 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.02% or 0.20 to trade at $1223.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.01% to 112.47, while EUR/JPY rose 0.09% to 131.06.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 94.89.
