Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Marine Transport and Retail sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Yahoo Japan Corp. (T:4689), which rose 9.18% or 27.0 points to trade at 321.0 at the close. Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd. (T:1332) added 7.28% or 49.0 points to end at 722.0 and Ube Industries, Ltd. (T:4208) was up 5.80% or 142.0 points to 2591.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Astellas Pharma Inc. (T:4503), which lost 4.69% or 82.0 points to trade at 1668.0 in late trade. Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. (T:4568) declined 4.05% or 160.0 points to end at 3788.0 and Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. (T:5002) shed 3.92% or 65.0 points to 1595.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2049 to 1443 and 206 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 6.10% to 17.23 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.02% or 0.01 to $54.57 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in April fell 0.06% or 0.04 to hit $62.47 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.20% or 2.65 to trade at $1316.65 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.01% to 109.89, while EUR/JPY fell 0.16% to 125.47.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 95.680.
