Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Shipbuilding and Finance & Investment sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were SUMCO Corp. (T:3436), which rose 5.42% or 69.0 points to trade at 1342.0 at the close. Advantest Corp. (T:6857) added 4.54% or 120.0 points to end at 2762.0 and Fanuc Corp. (T:6954) was up 4.45% or 860.0 points to 20195.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rakuten Inc (T:4755), which lost 4.56% or 46.0 points to trade at 962.0 in late trade. Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (T:4506) declined 4.28% or 118.0 points to end at 2636.0 and Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:9501) shed 3.54% or 25.0 points to 682.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2101 to 1422 and 198 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 4.18% to 17.20.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for May delivery was up 0.23% or 0.14 to $61.73 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in June rose 0.19% or 0.13 to hit $69.14 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.23% or 2.95 to trade at $1291.25 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.01% to 111.35, while EUR/JPY fell 0.11% to 124.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 96.968.
