Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Non-Metal Minerals, Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic and Construction sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.29% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T:5301), which rose 14.34% or 74.0 points to trade at 590.0 at the close. Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (T:7211) added 8.75% or 62.0 points to end at 770.5 and Minebea Mitsumi Inc (T:6479) was up 7.28% or 118.0 points to 1738.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (T:3099), which lost 8.02% or 101.0 points to trade at 1158.0 in late trade. Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735) declined 7.01% or 620.0 points to end at 8230.0 and Asahi Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5201) shed 5.44% or 54.0 points to 939.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1731 to 1291 and 352 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.18% to 14.81.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was up 0.96% or 0.44 to $46.32 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.82% or 0.40 to hit $49.13 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 0.67% or 8.09 to trade at $1224.19 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.14% to 113.84, while EUR/JPY fell 0.02% to 123.94.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 99.32.
