Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Transportation Equipment and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Kubota Corp. (T:6326), which rose 4.63% or 74.0 points to trade at 1671.5 at the close. Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) added 4.18% or 12.0 points to end at 299.0 and Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (T:4519) was up 4.18% or 150.0 points to 3735.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (T:7211), which lost 16.31% or 141.0 points to trade at 723.5 in late trade. Tokyo Dome Corp. (T:9681) declined 6.80% or 35.0 points to end at 480.0 and Konami Corp. (T:9766) shed 6.13% or 230.0 points to 3520.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1015 to 859 and 127 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 5.49% to 30.18.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was down 2.00% or 0.85 to $41.62 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in June fell 1.79% or 0.79 to hit $43.24 a barrel, while the June Gold contract fell 0.28% or 3.50 to trade at $1250.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.24% to 108.94, while EUR/JPY fell 0.22% to 123.77.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.01% at 94.06.
