Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Insurance, Finance & Investment and Transportation Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.15% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Pioneer Corp. (T:6773), which rose 4.72% or 11.0 points to trade at 244.0 at the close. Toshiba Corp. (T:6502) added 3.27% or 6.8 points to end at 214.8 and Marui Group Co., Ltd. (T:8252) was up 2.95% or 45.0 points to 1568.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nisshin Steel Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:5413), which lost 2.41% or 39.0 points to trade at 1578.0 in late trade. SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) declined 2.19% or 37.0 points to end at 1649.0 and T&D Holdings, Inc. (T:8795) shed 2.16% or 41.5 points to 1882.5.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1510 to 1503 and 351 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 0.34% to 14.74.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for April delivery was down 0.60% or 0.29 to $48.20 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in May fell 0.43% or 0.22 to hit $51.15 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract rose 0.66% or 7.95 to trade at $1209.35 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.10% to 114.69, while EUR/JPY rose 0.18% to 122.72.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.37% at 101.00.
