Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Transportation Equipment, Steel and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Citizen Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:7762), which rose 3.55% or 28.0 points to trade at 816.0 at the close. Showa Denko K.K. (T:4004) added 3.49% or 91.0 points to end at 2697.0 and Ube Industries, Ltd. (T:4208) was up 3.11% or 9.0 points to 298.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which lost 3.28% or 8.9 points to trade at 262.2 in late trade. Advantest Corp. (T:6857) declined 2.29% or 44.0 points to end at 1878.0 and Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5214) shed 1.71% or 70.0 points to 4015.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2000 to 1188 and 282 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 15.81% to 15.75 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was up 0.41% or 0.19 to $46.23 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.29% or 0.14 to hit $48.91 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.43% or 5.38 to trade at $1236.92 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.40% to 112.86, while EUR/JPY rose 0.05% to 128.51.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.32% at 95.70.
