Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Transport, Mining and Shipbuilding sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (T:3099), which rose 5.18% or 54.0 points to trade at 1097.0 at the close. J.Front Retailing Co., Ltd. (T:3086) added 5.05% or 65.0 points to end at 1351.0 and Nippon Yusen K.K (T:9101) was up 5.01% or 10.0 points to 209.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included DeNA Co Ltd (T:2432), which lost 3.19% or 115.0 points to trade at 3485.0 in late trade. Meiji Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:2269) declined 3.04% or 300.0 points to end at 9580.0 and Nisshin Seifun Group Inc. (T:2002) shed 2.99% or 46.0 points to 1493.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1099 to 800 and 157 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 6.10% to 20.46.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for October delivery was down 1.11% or 0.53 to $47.09 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in November fell 1.24% or 0.62 to hit $49.37 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.15% or 2.05 to trade at $1339.55 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.25% to 102.22, while EUR/JPY fell 0.14% to 115.22.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.09% at 94.95.
