Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, Insurance and Finance & Investment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Seven & i Holdings Co., Ltd. (TYO:3382), which rose 4.71% or 105.00 points to trade at 2,335.00 at the close. Lasertec Corp (TYO:6920) added 4.42% or 1,045.00 points to end at 24,670.00 and Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857) was up 3.65% or 269.00 points to 7,639.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Inpex Corp. (TYO:1605), which lost 3.04% or 66.00 points to trade at 2,107.00 in late trade. Ricoh Co., Ltd. (TYO:7752) declined 2.68% or 44.50 points to end at 1,617.00 and Idemitsu Kosan Co Ltd (TYO:5019) shed 2.58% or 29.00 points to 1,096.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1830 to 1744 and 266 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 20.33% to 30.19 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for November delivery was up 0.27% or 0.20 to $73.77 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in December rose 0.40% or 0.31 to hit $77.49 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.02% or 0.55 to trade at $2,634.85 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.25% to 148.56, while EUR/JPY rose 0.12% to 162.91.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 102.37.
