Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Warehousing, Gas & Water and Power sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.89%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Sony Corp (T:6758), which rose 9.89% or 531.0 points to trade at 5900.0 at the close. Nippon Light Metal Holdings Co. (T:5703) added 5.19% or 12.0 points to end at 243.0 and T&D Holdings, Inc. (T:8795) was up 4.55% or 49.5 points to 1136.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T:6976), which lost 5.08% or 108.0 points to trade at 2018.0 in late trade. TDK Corp (T:6762) declined 4.69% or 400.0 points to end at 8120.0 and Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735) shed 3.94% or 190.0 points to 4630.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2700 to 836 and 176 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 13.64% to 18.99.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was up 0.33% or 0.21 to $63.08 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.10% or 0.07 to hit $72.69 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 0.06% or 0.75 to trade at $1286.95 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.13% to 109.69, while EUR/JPY fell 0.08% to 122.61.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 97.632.
