Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Mining, Gas & Water and Communication sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.83%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co., Ltd. (T:5232), which rose 6.02% or 29.0 points to trade at 511.0 at the close. Shiseido Co., Ltd. (T:4911) added 5.14% or 422.0 points to end at 8626.0 and Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd. (T:5301) was up 5.08% or 108.0 points to 2233.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (T:9107), which lost 3.22% or 74.5 points to trade at 2241.0 in late trade. Pioneer Corp. (T:6773) declined 2.52% or 4.0 points to end at 155.0 and Ube Industries, Ltd. (T:4208) shed 2.37% or 75.0 points to 3095.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1996 to 1328 and 230 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 18.14% to 18.89 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was down 0.48% or 0.33 to $67.88 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 0.39% or 0.30 to hit $77.42 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 0.25% or 3.20 to trade at $1304.70 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.06% to 108.85, while EUR/JPY rose 0.39% to 127.52.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.33% at 93.75.
