Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Shipbuilding and Communication sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.55% to hit a new 5-year high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Itochu Corp. (T:8001), which rose 6.98% or 145.2 points to trade at 2226.0 at the close. Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735) added 4.67% or 310.0 points to end at 6950.0 and JTEKT Corp. (T:6473) was up 4.45% or 74.0 points to 1737.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Takashimaya Co., Ltd. (T:8233), which lost 3.75% or 72.0 points to trade at 1847.0 in late trade. Yamaha Corp. (T:7951) declined 2.99% or 180.0 points to end at 5840.0 and Chiyoda Corp. (T:6366) shed 2.92% or 27.0 points to 898.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1783 to 1640 and 197 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 2.63% to 16.76.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for November delivery was up 0.08% or 0.06 to $73.31 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in December rose 0.11% or 0.09 to hit $82.82 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.52% or 6.20 to trade at $1190.00 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.24% to 113.97, while EUR/JPY rose 0.17% to 132.16.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 94.81.
