Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Gas & Water and Insurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.19% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (TYO:4519), which rose 3.47% or 167.00 points to trade at 4,978.00 at the close. Ebara Corp. (TYO:6361) added 3.44% or 405.00 points to end at 12,165.00 and Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (TYO:6976) was up 3.35% or 116.00 points to 3,576.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Daiwa Securities Group Inc. (TYO:8601), which lost 4.60% or 60.50 points to trade at 1,254.50 in late trade. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (TYO:9104) declined 3.69% or 189.00 points to end at 4,927.00 and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107) shed 3.61% or 87.50 points to 2,335.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2002 to 1539 and 315 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.18% to 17.98.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.10% or 0.08 to $77.82 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 0.04% or 0.03 to hit $81.66 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.30% or 6.90 to trade at $2,320.10 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.17% to 157.29, while EUR/JPY rose 0.20% to 169.40.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.36% at 104.73.
