Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Insurance, Shipbuilding and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were J.Front Retailing Co., Ltd. (TYO:3086), which rose 14.72% or 247.00 points to trade at 1,924.50 at the close. Takashimaya Co., Ltd. (TYO:8233) added 11.06% or 299.50 points to end at 3,007.00 and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (TYO:9107) was up 6.84% or 160.00 points to 2,500.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lasertec Corp (TYO:6920), which lost 3.99% or 1,440.00 points to trade at 34,650.00 in late trade. Terumo Corp. (TYO:4543) declined 3.96% or 105.00 points to end at 2,548.00 and Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (TYO:4506) shed 3.70% or 15.00 points to 390.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1884 to 1747 and 251 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.31% to 16.13 a new 6-month low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was up 0.70% or 0.57 to $82.11 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.69% or 0.59 to hit $85.59 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.07% or 1.60 to trade at $2,338.00 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.12% to 161.01, while EUR/JPY rose 0.45% to 173.44.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.39% at 105.13.
