Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Gas & Water, Paper & Pulp and Communication sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:9501), which rose 3.74% or 27.0 points to trade at 749.0 at the close. Hokuetsu Kishu Paper Co., Ltd. (T:3865) added 3.63% or 21.0 points to end at 599.0 and Toho Co., Ltd. (T:9602) was up 3.52% or 135.0 points to 3975.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Trend Micro Inc. (T:4704), which lost 9.03% or 580.0 points to trade at 5840.0 in late trade. Dainippon Screen Mfg. Co., Ltd. (T:7735) declined 6.00% or 330.0 points to end at 5170.0 and Advantest Corp. (T:6857) shed 4.61% or 111.0 points to 2298.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1780 to 1672 and 232 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 2.30% to 19.99.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.12% or 0.06 to $52.05 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in April fell 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $59.80 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.33% or 4.25 to trade at $1307.35 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.09% to 109.25, while EUR/JPY rose 0.10% to 125.05.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 95.343.
