Benzinga - Sony (NYSE: SONY)’s PlayStation 5 (PS5) was released more than two years ago, on Nov. 12, 2020. But since then, the Tokyo-based conglomerate has continued to release titles for the 10-year-old PlayStation 4 (PS4).
For example, 2022 video games — “Horizon: Forbidden West” and “God of War: Ragnarök” — were published for both PS5 and PS4, despite CEO’s Jim Ryan statement that Sony believes in “generations," indicating that the company’s focus is on one console at a time.
Nevertheless, Sony seems to be leaving its support for cross-gen games behind, as per Kotaku.
An official PlayStation trailer revealed some of the things the company has in stock for the console fans this 2023. And the video shows that only 8 of the 23 upcoming games will be released for both PS4 and PS5.
Moreover, all of Sony’s exclusive titles (i.e., Spider-Man 2) will be published exclusively for PS5.
“It’s likely that Sony was hesitant to move forward into a PS5-only future while it was impossible for most to even buy the console. Things are starting to change on that front, and it’s getting easier and easier to snag a PS5. And as more people buy the upgraded console, it becomes easier and easier to finally look forward into the next generation of gaming,” diagnosed specializing journalist Zack Zwiezen.
