Investing.com – Greece equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, Oil & Gas and Insurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Athens, the Athens General-Composite added 1.51% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Athens General-Composite were Alpha Bank (AT:ACBr), which rose 9.64% or 0.013 points to trade at 0.153 at the close. Centric Hold (AT:DESr) added 8.96% or 0.012 points to end at 0.146 and Bank Of Piraeus (AT:BOPr) was up 8.18% or 0.009 points to 0.119 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Papoutsanis (AT:PSALr), which lost 6.56% or 0.021 points to trade at 0.299 in late trade. Dromeas (AT:DROr) declined 5.07% or 0.007 points to end at 0.131 and J. & P. Avax (AT:AVAr) shed 4.05% or 0.015 points to 0.355.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 61 to 37 and 11 ended unchanged on the Athens Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 1.58% or 17.40 to $1120.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 5.79% or 2.58 to hit $47.17 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 4.97% or 2.38 to trade at $50.12 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.23% to 1.1296, while EUR/GBP fell 0.80% to 0.7283.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.36% at 95.42.
