Proactive Investors - Google has won an appeal against the European Commission over a €1.5 billion fine for abusing its dominance in markets for brokering online search advertising.
The European Union's general court annulled the original decision on Wednesday, which was made in 2019 against the search engine arm of Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) after EC regulators said the company had blocked rival online advertisers.
It is one of three EU antiturt cases against Google.
The Commission is expected to appeal this latest decision. A statement from the EC said it took note of the judgement and "will carefully study the judgment and reflect on possible next steps".
Last week, Europe's top court said Google must pay a €2.4 billion fine for abusing market dominance in shopping comparison services.
The European Court of Justice ordered the search engine giant to pay the fine for market dominance abuse, which had been disputed by the company since an original regulatory ruling in 2017.
A €4.3 billion fine was also levelled by the EC over Google's use of the Andorid smartphone operating system.
