Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Food Producers, General Retailers and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.52%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which rose 2.14% or 6.45 points to trade at 307.50 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 1.54% or 16.50 points to end at 1084.50 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) was up 1.19% or 17.00 points to 1447.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pearson PLC (LON:PSON), which lost 5.14% or 35.50 points to trade at 655.00 in late trade. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) declined 4.69% or 15.90 points to end at 323.10 and Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) shed 4.08% or 121.00 points to 2845.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1224 to 681 and 452 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.13% or 1.55 to $1214.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.89% or 0.84 to hit $45.24 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.83% or 0.86 to trade at $47.74 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.28% to 1.2845, while EUR/GBP rose 0.60% to 0.8903.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 95.69.
