Proactive Investors - Dr Martens PLC (LON:DOCS) will appoint Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) director Ije Nwokorie, who is a non-executive director at the footwear brand, to the newly created role of chief brand officer as it continues to shuffle its board and rejuvenate its shares.
The newly created position was the second appointment this week, following the hiring of a new chief financial officer on Tuesday, having on Monday seen its shares sink to a new all-time low.
Nwokorie, who is currently a non-executive director on the Dr Martens board, will start in his new role in February, reporting directly to chief executive officer Kenny Wilson.
The new brand officer role will be responsible for setting the overall brand strategy, vision and direction of the company for the next phase of its growth.
Nwokorie has been a senior director at Apple Retail since January 2018 and a Dr Martens board member since 2021.
He previously spent 11 years at global brand consultancy Wolff Olins, where he most recently held the role of chief executive, leading teams in offices in San Francisco, London, Dubai and New York. He is also the chair of non-profit organisation Charity Water UK.
Commenting on the appointment, Dr Martens CEO Wilson said: "Ije is a visionary brand storyteller and this, along with his infectious passion for Dr. Martens, makes him the ideal person to lead the next era of our brand development.
“I am delighted that he will be joining my team in a permanent full-time position of chief brand officer, which will be a crucial role to enable us to become a £2 billion revenue brand."
The shares fell back almost 1% to 114p on Thursday morning, having bounced back from Monday's all-time low below 106p, less than a third of its eight times oversubscribed 2021 IPO.
