Proactive Investors - Caledonia Mining Corporation PLC (LON:CALq) has appointed industry veteran James Mufara as chief operating officer.
Mufara will join on May 1 from Harmony Gold (NYSE:HMY), where he was regional general manager.
During his time at Harmony, Mufara oversaw five separate mines, producing 450,000 oz of gold per year, while also helping to manage 15,000 workers.
Mufara’s expertise stems from a 25-year-long career within South Africa’s mining sector, 13 years of which were in leadership positions.
While the 49-year-old’s career has largely been in gold projects, Mufara has also worked in nickel, copper and chrome mines.
Caledonia’s operations include an underground operation at the Blanket mine and open-pit developments at Bilboes and Motapa.
Mark Learmonth, chief executive at Caledonia, said: “He [Mufara] will be joining us at a pivotal moment in Caledonia's development and I know the team will benefit from his wealth of experience.”
Mufara added: “I am excited that I will be joining Caledonia and look forward to working with the talented team to drive operational performance across the group's high-quality portfolio.”
