Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Steel, Railway & Bus and Non-Metal Minerals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.62%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which rose 2.17% or 6.0 points to trade at 282.9 at the close. Showa Denko K.K. (T:4004) added 2.11% or 65.0 points to end at 3140.0 and Hokuetsu Kishu Paper Co., Ltd. (T:3865) was up 1.78% or 14.0 points to 800.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Toyo Seikan Group Holdings, Ltd. (T:5901), which lost 2.97% or 55.0 points to trade at 1796.0 in late trade. Kao Corp. (T:4452) declined 2.92% or 208.0 points to end at 6924.0 and Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043) shed 2.80% or 16.0 points to 555.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1786 to 1380 and 302 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.45% to 12.24 a new 5-year low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.39% or 0.18 to $45.59 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.37% or 0.18 to hit $47.88 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.04% or 0.48 to trade at $1254.42 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.23% to 110.87, while EUR/JPY fell 0.40% to 129.10.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 93.83.
