Investing.com – Australia equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Metals & Mining, Resources and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sydney, the S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.58%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/ASX 200 were Liquefied Natural Gas Ltd (ASX:LNG), which rose 12.02% or 0.310 points to trade at 2.890 at the close. Western Areas Ltd (ASX:WSA) added 11.90% or 0.300 points to end at 2.820 and Nine Ent Fpo (ASX:NEC) was up 10.33% or 0.155 points to 1.655 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dicksmith Fpo (ASX:DSH), which lost 4.28% or 0.070 points to trade at 1.565 in late trade. Veda Group Ltd (ASX:VED) declined 4.19% or 0.090 points to end at 2.060 and Navitas Ltd (ASX:NVT) shed 4.15% or 0.170 points to 3.930.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 592 to 405 and 165 ended unchanged on the Sydney Stock Exchange.
The S&P/ASX 200 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/ASX 200 options, was down 1.39% to 23.345.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.68% or 7.60 to $1130.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.08% or 0.46 to hit $43.02 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.69% or 0.33 to trade at $47.89 a barrel.
AUD/USD was up 0.02% to 0.7168, while AUD/JPY rose 0.06% to 86.77.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.06% at 95.69.
