Investing.com – Taiwan equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , Optoelectronic and Biotech & Medical Care sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted lost 1.05% to hit a new 3-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Billion (TW:3027), which rose 9.78% or 1.10 points to trade at 12.35 at the close. Jui Li (TW:1512) added 9.63% or 0.58 points to end at 6.60 and Tainan Enter (TW:1473) was up 6.91% or 2.10 points to 32.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hsin Ba Ba (TW:9906), which lost 9.74% or 1.30 points to trade at 12.05 in late trade. Tpk Holding (TW:3673) declined 9.47% or 7.10 points to end at 67.90 and Gigabyte Tech (TW:2376) shed 9.18% or 3.35 points to 33.15.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 649 to 197 and 3 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for February delivery was up 0.15% or 0.06 to $36.02 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 0.41% or 0.15 to hit $36.44 a barrel, while the February Gold contract rose 0.10% or 1.10 to trade at $1079.50 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.19% to 33.203, while TWD/CNY rose 0.46% to 0.1976.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.02% at 99.48.
