Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Industrial Engineering sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.71%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 1.64% or 25.00 points to trade at 1553.00 at the close. Travis Perkins PLC (LON:TPK) added 1.61% or 24.00 points to end at 1510.00 and Bunzl PLC (LON:BNZL) was up 1.28% or 30.00 points to 2365.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which lost 4.24% or 14.60 points to trade at 330.10 in late trade. Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) declined 4.12% or 143.00 points to end at 3327.00 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) shed 3.97% or 53.00 points to 1283.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1309 to 645 and 436 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.95% or 11.75 to $1245.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.27% or 0.62 to hit $48.29 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.99% or 0.51 to trade at $51.11 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 1.05% to 1.2489, while EUR/GBP fell 0.36% to 0.8659.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.68% at 99.48.
