Sky hammered what could be the final nail in the coffin of the satellite dish with the launch of its new ‘plug in and play’ WiFi streaming platform.
Sky Stream will offer viewers most of the broadcaster's services plus additional channels such as Netflix without the need of a dish or installation.
Launching in the UK on 18 October, combined packages including Sky TV and Netflix will be available from £26 a month in a bid to keep and attract new customers in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis.
“It’s the most affordable and easiest way to get Sky TV and Netflix together, offering consumers the value they are seeking right now,” said Stephen van Rooyen, executive vice president & CEO of Sky UK & Europe.
Over 120 Sky TV channels plus Netflix will all be available on Sky Stream, as well as applications for BBC iPlayer, Disney+ and Apple TV+.
“There couldn’t be a better time to launch our latest innovation using the Sky Glass Platform – whether you want to stream House of the Dragon, Gangs of London or Stranger Things, Sky Stream has it all,” van Rooyen added.
Add-ons such as Sky Sports and BT Sports will be at an additional cost.
