Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.86%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (L:AAL), which rose 5.70% or 16.00 points to trade at 296.50 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (L:ANTO) added 4.66% or 19.80 points to end at 445.00 and Glencore PLC (L:GLEN) was up 3.36% or 2.7900 points to 85.8400 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Marks and Spencer Group PLC (L:MKS), which lost 1.05% or 4.70 points to trade at 442.90 in late trade. ITV PLC (L:ITV) declined 0.99% or 2.70 points to end at 268.80 and Whitbread PLC (L:WTB) shed 0.86% or 38.00 points to 4356.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1161 to 968 and 427 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was down 0.57% or 6.20 to $1074.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.48% or 0.53 to hit $36.34 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.00% or 0.01 to trade at $36.35 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.42% to 1.4822, while EUR/GBP rose 1.00% to 0.7406.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.36% at 98.08.
