Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Mining, Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic and Machinery sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 1.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were SKY Perfect JSAT Holdings Inc. (T:9412), which rose 5.18% or 33.0 points to trade at 670.0 at the close. Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd. (T:1332) added 4.83% or 21.0 points to end at 456.0 and ANA Holdings Inc. (T:9202) was up 2.27% or 7.8 points to 350.8 in late trade.
Biggest losers included SUMCO Corp. (T:3436), which lost 5.79% or 73.0 points to trade at 1187.0 in late trade. JGC Corp. (T:1963) declined 5.75% or 121.0 points to end at 1984.0 and Inpex Corp. (T:1605) shed 5.02% or 61.5 points to 1164.5.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1436 to 436 and 1 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 6.63% to 21.06.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for January delivery was up 0.09% or 0.04 to $37.69 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in January rose 0.52% or 0.21 to hit $40.94 a barrel, while the February Gold contract fell 0.23% or 2.50 to trade at $1072.70 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.22% to 123.12, while EUR/JPY fell 0.01% to 133.66.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.15% at 98.59.
