Investing.com – Netherlands equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Telecoms and Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Amsterdam, the AEX rose 1.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the AEX were SBM Offshore (AS:SBMO), which rose 4.65% or 0.60 points to trade at 13.62 at the close. Royal Dutch Shell A (AS:RDSa) added 4.13% or 0.950 points to end at 23.980 and ABN AMRO Group NV (AS:ABNd) was up 2.87% or 0.57 points to 20.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Gemalto (AS:GTO), which lost 1.70% or 0.83 points to trade at 48.12 in late trade. Koninklijke Ahold Delhaize NV (AS:AD) declined 1.64% or 0.31 points to end at 18.61 and Philips Kon (AS:PHG) shed 1.40% or 0.39 points to 27.14.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 96 to 75 and 10 ended unchanged on the Amsterdam Stock Exchange.
The AEX Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of AEX options, was down 2.88% to 18.93.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for January delivery was up 8.53% or 3.86 to $49.09 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February rose 8.94% or 4.23 to hit $51.55 a barrel, while the February Gold contract fell 1.24% or 14.75 to trade at $1176.05 a troy ounce.
EUR/USD was down 0.54% to 1.0592, while EUR/GBP fell 0.57% to 0.8476.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.59% at 101.58.
