LONDON (Reuters) - China has formally asked to be admitted to the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) as a member, the EBRD said on Thursday.
"China has made a formal application for membership of the EBRD just a few days ago. This is going to be considered by the board," said Hans Peter Lankes, the EBRD's acting chief economist.
"We would expect there to be a mid-December decision on this," he said.
The EBRD is owned by 64 countries, the European Union and the European Investment Bank, and also has members outside Central and Eastern Europe.
