Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Transport and Food sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.74%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. (T:5541), which rose 10.28% or 29.0 points to trade at 311.0 at the close. Asahi Kasei Corp. (T:3407) added 4.89% or 61.5 points to end at 1318.5 and Tosoh Corp. (T:4042) was up 3.59% or 44.0 points to 1269.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included SUMCO Corp. (T:3436), which lost 2.87% or 48.0 points to trade at 1624.0 in late trade. Toshiba Corp. (T:6502) declined 2.82% or 9.0 points to end at 310.5 and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (T:5713) shed 1.33% or 25.5 points to 1887.5.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2072 to 1083 and 296 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 6.13% to 15.41.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for October delivery was down 0.67% or 0.31 to $46.13 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in November fell 0.83% or 0.43 to hit $51.23 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.31% or 4.13 to trade at $1314.77 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.23% to 109.95, while EUR/JPY rose 0.05% to 131.38.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 92.42.
