Investing.com – Taiwan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Electricity, Semiconductor and Optoelectronic sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted added 1.07% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were U-Tech (TW:3050), which rose 10.00% or 1.20 points to trade at 13.20 at the close. Pan Intl Ind (TW:2328) added 10.00% or 1.55 points to end at 17.05 and Nishoku (TW:3679) was up 9.89% or 5.20 points to 57.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included X-Legend (TW:4994), which lost 6.57% or 3.70 points to trade at 52.60 in late trade. Wei Chih Steel (TW:2028) declined 4.12% or 0.070 points to end at 1.630 and Lung Hwa Eltrs (TW:2424) shed 4.04% or 0.95 points to 22.55.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 509 to 215 and 130 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.14% or 0.06 to $41.66 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.39% or 0.17 to hit $43.70 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.23% or 3.15 to trade at $1354.35 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 1.14% to 31.560, while TWD/CNY fell 0.14% to 0.2089.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.12% at 95.64.
