Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Technology Hardware & Equipment and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.86%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG), which rose 1.60% or 20.00 points to trade at 1271.00 at the close. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) added 1.48% or 6.20 points to end at 424.20 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) was up 1.23% or 75.00 points to 6170.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which lost 6.85% or 42.30 points to trade at 575.00 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 4.60% or 19.60 points to end at 406.10 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) shed 4.20% or 5.7500 points to 131.1000.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1261 to 766 and 457 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was down 0.37% or 4.70 to $1270.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.56% or 0.26 to hit $45.97 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.05% or 0.50 to trade at $47.10 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.04% to 1.4453, while EUR/GBP fell 0.46% to 0.7873.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.31% at 94.09.
