Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 2.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Randgold Resources Ltd (L:RRS), which rose 1.73% or 75.00 points to trade at 4403.00 at the close. Next PLC (L:NXT) added 1.09% or 75.00 points to end at 6940.00 and Marks and Spencer Group PLC (L:MKS) was up 0.11% or 0.50 points to 439.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Anglo American PLC (L:AAL), which lost 11.00% or 29.75 points to trade at 240.65 in late trade. Glencore PLC (L:GLEN) declined 8.32% or 7.1400 points to end at 78.7100 and Aberdeen Asset Management PLC (L:ADN) shed 7.78% or 21.00 points to 249.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1984 to 324 and 317 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 1.32% or 14.40 to $1106.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.56% or 0.53 to hit $33.44 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.83% or 0.28 to trade at $33.95 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.45% to 1.4564, while EUR/GBP rose 1.29% to 0.7463.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.52% at 98.77.
