Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Fishery and Transportation Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.23% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Pioneer Corp. (T:6773), which rose 6.17% or 14.0 points to trade at 241.0 at the close. Ricoh Co., Ltd. (T:7752) added 4.72% or 44.0 points to end at 977.0 and Marui Group Co., Ltd. (T:8252) was up 4.28% or 54.0 points to 1315.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043), which lost 6.87% or 29.0 points to trade at 393.0 in late trade. Nippon Soda Co., Ltd. (T:4041) declined 6.32% or 33.0 points to end at 489.0 and The Japan Steel Works, Ltd. (T:5631) shed 6.02% or 29.0 points to 453.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1231 to 688 and 137 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 3.26% to 23.44.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for October delivery was up 0.54% or 0.24 to $44.94 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in November rose 0.41% or 0.19 to hit $47.08 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.03% or 0.35 to trade at $1311.05 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.12% to 103.31, while EUR/JPY fell 0.18% to 115.17.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.04% at 96.05.
