Benzinga - A dormant Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) wallet, featuring 1,005 BTC (equivalent to $29.7 million), has sprung back to life after lying dormant for almost 13 years.
What Happened: This awakening of a long inactive wallet from the early days of Bitcoin has sparked widespread speculation and intrigue.
Such addresses from the era associated with Bitcoin’s mysterious creator, Satoshi Nakamoto, are incredibly rare, with most remaining untouched for extended periods.
Nakamoto, who communicated with Bitcoin developers before abruptly vanishing in 2010, has since remained an enigmatic figure in the industry. As news of this recent activity circulates, many wonder if it could be somehow linked to the elusive Satoshi.
Looks like Satoshi is back! I can bet this wallet is owned by Satoshi Nakamoto himself.See More: A Stay At The Floating Palace From James Bond's ‘Octopussy’— The Wise Guy (@wiseguyhoshi) August 16, 2023
Why It Matters: The 1,005 BTC held in the dormant wallet were transferred to another address, with multiple appearances of the same address in the transaction inputs.
According to Blockchair, a blockchain explorer, the funds found a new home in the address “bc1q6,” which currently holds a substantial 1,004.99 BTC.
Price Action: At the time of writing, BTC was trading at $29,147 down 1.51% in the last 24 hours, according to Benzinga Pro.
