Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Gas & Water, Retail and Rubber sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Shimizu Corp. (T:1803), which rose 3.71% or 37.0 points to trade at 1035.0 at the close. Comsys Holdings Corp. (T:1721) added 3.37% or 67.0 points to end at 2056.0 and Yahoo Japan Corp. (T:4689) was up 3.20% or 16.5 points to 531.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which lost 5.30% or 12.8 points to trade at 228.9 in late trade. Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) declined 4.03% or 22.0 points to end at 524.0 and Mitsui Mining and Smelting Co. (T:5706) shed 2.90% or 11.0 points to 368.5.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1553 to 1517 and 292 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 5.40% to 18.55.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for May delivery was down 0.02% or 0.01 to $50.59 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in June fell 0.11% or 0.06 to hit $53.47 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.27% or 3.40 to trade at $1247.80 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.02% to 111.38, while EUR/JPY rose 0.13% to 118.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 100.36.
