Investing.com – South Africa equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Industrials, Financials & Industrials and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Johannesburg, the FTSE/JSE Top 40 declined 1.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the FTSE/JSE Top 40 were AngloGold Ashanti Ltd (JO:ANGJ), which rose 3.30% or 364 points to trade at 11400 at the close. Assore Ltd (JO:ASRJ) added 2.17% or 229 points to end at 10779 and Shoprite Holdings Ltd (JO:SHPJ) was up 0.60% or 100 points to 16800 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Naspers Ltd (JO:NPNJn), which lost 4.71% or 9104 points to trade at 183996 in late trade. Steinhoff International Holdings (JO:SHFJ) declined 2.99% or 230 points to end at 7527 and Reinet (JO:REIJ) shed 2.52% or 66.00 points to 2580.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 173 to 71 and 12 ended unchanged on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was down 1.91% or 1.14 to $58.49 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 2.02% or 1.27 to hit $61.98 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.33% or 3.90 to trade at $1177.10 a troy ounce.
USD/ZAR was up 0.64% to 12.2779, while EUR/ZAR rose 0.83% to 13.7358.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.32% at 95.30.
