Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Transport, Glass and Retail sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 1.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (T:4519), which rose 4.84% or 180.0 points to trade at 3900.0 at the close. Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (T:5713) added 1.82% or 22.0 points to end at 1230.5 and Sapporo Holdings Ltd. (T:2501) was up 1.62% or 48.0 points to 3005.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (T:6770), which lost 4.81% or 102.0 points to trade at 2018.0 in late trade. Dentsu Inc. (T:4324) declined 4.72% or 245.0 points to end at 4945.0 and SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) shed 4.46% or 32.0 points to 685.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1395 to 527 and 134 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.00% to 29.15.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was down 0.54% or 0.24 to $44.51 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September fell 0.24% or 0.11 to hit $46.09 a barrel, while the August Gold contract fell 0.41% or 5.50 to trade at $1325.50 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.07% to 105.93, while EUR/JPY rose 0.07% to 116.78.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.03% at 96.97.
