Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Real Estate, REITs and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.12% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TO:WTE), which rose 9.86% or 2.52 points to trade at 28.09 at the close. Colliers International Group Inc (TO:CIGI) added 7.27% or 4.00 points to end at 58.99 and Canadian Tire Corp Ltd (TO:CTCa) was up 6.88% or 9.94 points to 154.51 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ProMetic Life Sciences Inc. (TO:PLI), which lost 7.42% or 0.190 points to trade at 2.370 in late trade. Teck Resources Ltd B (TO:TECKb) declined 5.25% or 1.54 points to end at 27.78 and Sun Life Financial Inc. (TO:SLF) shed 5.09% or 2.68 points to 49.94.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 643 to 538 and 127 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 20.81% to 8.94.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.61% or 7.55 to $1240.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.60% or 0.32 to hit $53.43 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $55.76 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.04% to 0.7648, while CAD/EUR fell 0.65% to 0.7164.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.62% at 100.45.
